30 Days of NaNoWriMo: Day One – The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship
by Kayla Trail
So here we are, day one of the glorious crazy literary adventure that is National Novel Writing Month, better known as NaNoWriMo. All of us wanna-be novelists come together and write a 50 thousand word novel in only 30 days! It’s crazy but it’s so much fun and so addicting.
This year is my fifth year undertaking this adventure but I find that it doesn’t get any easier. Today I sat in a Starbucks with a mint-flavored Christmas drink in my hands and stared at a blank word document for about a half hour before finally getting started. Here we go, I thought to myself. Another year, another 50 thousand words and we’ve got to start somewhere.
It may not always be good. To be perfectly honest, on a scale of one to ten, I would hazard a guess that most of it falls below a five. Sometimes what I end up writing isn’t even a story – more of a collection of thoughts all jumbled together in one word document. But that’s not important. Sure, there will be plot holes, one dimensional characters and atrocious dialogue. But 30 days from now on December first, I will have a new friend, a story that I put down on paper which I can’t wait to discover in the coming weeks.
Good luck to all of you out there in the WordPress universe tackling Nanowrimo this month! My the words flow from your fingers and may the ideas never cease.
